About Us
Ashley and I have been the best of friends ever
since our oldest daughters were born months apart nearly eight years ago.
Over the years we collaborated constantly on cooking ideas and this website
grew out of our shared passion
for great food. Ashley organized and created the site, and together we
create great recipes!
Ashley loves to bake, and all the recipes found on
our dessert table and bread table are from her. I, on
the other hand, am baking challenged, but thanks to Rachel Ray, I can hold
my head up and say with some confidence, that I am a
cook, not a baker! Between the two of us,
we bring two distinct mindsets to this cooking game, pushing and challenging
each other to get each recipe just right.
We don't want to show you 10 chocolate chip cookie recipes with fancy
titles. We want to show you one perfect one, and the same goes for
every recipe in the index.
But first, let me introduce you to Ashley:
She's a great mom. I want to be like her when I grow up. She has
a degree in Fitness and Wellness Management from Brigham Young University
and keeps reminding me that as long as I eat
lots of fruits and
vegetables, those famous cookies won't go to my love handles. In
earlier days, she qualified for and then competed in the prestigious
Kona Iron Man race, and still runs at least one or two
marathons each year (and she isn't even crazy).
As for me, I'm not much of a runner, although I do participate.
I have about as much self restraint as my two year old, so I have to combat
the waistline somehow! (The only thing that gets me out of bed early
is beating my kids to the last brownie for breakfast.) My degree in English
Lit is from Brigham Young University, where I learned to write.
Ashley would rather watch info-mercial re-runs than
decorate a table, so I try to add a little
flair to the site here and there, but mainly we
focus on the food so you can see what we're cooking. If I'm not
organizing my sock drawer or cleaning up something
sticky, you'll probably find me decorating. Nothing
bugs me more than a picture hung too high on the wall! I don't know if
I should announce this publicly, but, yes, things have labels in my pantry.
I love labels.
We're two Mom's cooking at home with real
ingredients, trying to re-discover how
food used to taste before dinner came out of a box.
About 'The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie'
I cannot think of anything fun that isn't connected with food. It binds people in a way that educated banter and expensive entertainment never can, simply because it's universal. We all gotta eat, whether it's beans and franks or almond crusted tilapia, and, happily, we get lots of practice: three squares and, if you're me, five snacks each and every day.
After all these years of eating, Ashley and I are determined to make
our time count. We want the real thing, and we're tired of settling for food impersonators like fast food chains and grocery store cookie wanna be's.
We want the best, and, let's be honest, if it isn't coming out of our own kitchens, it's not easy to find.
I'm fascinated with creating moments
through food. It's more than just impressing in-laws with an apropos
Sunday dinner or pulling off the holiday event of the century. It's
about the daily choices we make to eat something exciting or to pull a
burrito out of the freezer.
For Ashley, the mastermind behind our baker's
collection, it's a perfection thing. Just take a moment to look through some of her pictures and you will understand. They look like they came from that high end bakery I ate at once when I thought I had disposable income. I'd like to tell you that it's just an Ashley thing, but then you wouldn't try it yourself. All I can say is, if she can teach me how to bake, she can teach anyone, and that means you.
We created this site when a friend showed us a vision of chocolate chip cookie perfection, and that passion for getting it just right has grown into a comprehensive search for the perfect recipe for every moment in life. Why does a cookie have to be bready and chewy? Why can't it be crispy on the outside and warm and gooey in the middle just like the ones from the mall? The question you might ask yourself is, why can't mine be perfect too? And once you've conquered the cookie, why not artisan bread and lasagna? You can do it. We'll show you how.
